Idris Elba in Upscale magazine.

Posted by SouthernGurl

Idris Elba has been featured on the covers of several magazines over the past few months. God, he is so beautiful! Anyway, Upscale magazine is no exception. Idris can be seen gracing their August 2010 issue. In his cover story, this British brother talked a little about his personal life (something he doesn't do too often) including his two children; 8-year-old daughter, Isan (with his ex-wife), and infant son, Otenga (with his current girlfriend). And can yall believe that this man actually thinks people aren't interested in who he dates? Excerpts from his interview are below.
IDRIS ON BEING A SEX SYMBOL: Black men have never been sexy. We're 'sportsmen.' We're 'intimidating.' We're not 'good fathers.' So we need that. I think we should celebrate that. But am I a sex symbol? I don't know. Not everybody likes one thing.

IDRIS ON HIS PERSONAL LIFE: I'm sure people are curious, but do they really care? No. Jesus Christ, does it make a difference in their lives? No, not at all. ...I don't hide my girlfriend in a box or anything like that. I keep a very real existence in my real life. I go shopping for food myself. I have kids. I love my children and I love my kids. But they are not part of that world.

IDRIS ON WHY HE ENJOYS 'MODERATE' SUPER-STARDOM: When you're promoting a film, you become a property. That is actually one of the harder pills to swallow, as far as success is concerned. You have to be accessible all the time. As I climb the ladder, I realize that I'm becoming more and more of a recluse. One can water down their worth if they're over exposed. I like it [the moderate super-stardom] for personal reasons. For my work reasons, it's important that my name is recognizable, to make my films profitable. That's sort of my push-pull dilemma. I don't want it to be at the expense of my personal life to the point where I just can't go anywhere.

B.C.M. favorites Idris Elba, Chris Brown, Michael Ealy and T.I. were all on deck at the Takers movie premiere last night in Hollywood looking as good as they wanna look! I love the way Michael's eyes matched his shirt.

Idris Elba covers Ebony magazine's 'Summer's Sexiest' issue.

Posted by SouthernGurl

You know his face and that unforgettable name: Idris Elba. And this summer when his handsome face is plastered on the big screen of your nearest theater, if you're like me, for the first time ever you'll hear him speak in his real East London accent in his new movie Takers (in theaters August 27; the movie also co-stars Michael Ealy, T.I., Chris Brown and Steve Harris.)

Until then check out photos of Idris as he covers Ebony magazine's Summer Sexiest issue. Unsurprisingly, Idris tops the Top 10 list (that also includes Mehcad Brooks, Jesse Williams and Drake) for obvious reasons. In case you've been living under a rock or a in a cave, allow us to tell you a bit about Mr. Elba. If he were a chick, he'd be a vixen. If the gene pool were the lotto, he'd be the $300-million prize. He's a daddy, a divorce' and a good and grown 37. He keeps his private life and girlfriend drama out of the limelight...and that's always a good look!

But what's coming for him could possibly be more exciting than what is behind. He's caused quite a stir by accepting the role as Norse deity Heimdell in 2011's big-budget flick Thor. Heimdell's never been black before; that's proof positive that Idris has superhuman Jedi-like powers that turn casting directors into colorblind geniuses. The movie will likely be his best crossover role to date. And that's a good look too!

Essence magazine's Top 10 Sexy Men.

Posted by SouthernGurl

As promised, here's Essence magazine's February 2010 issue featuring their top 10 sexiest men that I said I would post up for you all. HERE.). With the exception of having Idris, Lance, Maxwell and LL Cool J. on the list, I, for one, am not impressed. (Read my gripe concerning this particular issue by clicking I've never even heard of at least two of the men on the list.

Inside the magazine, it says 'There's nothing like a dream lover. He's always sexy and romantic, with movie star good looks and the chiseled body of an athlete. Plus, he's got all the right moves. Channeling her inner bad girl, our own Jeannine Amber spins ten naughty tales starring some of our favorite men to curl up with, if only in our minds.' I don't know about all of that. What I do know is if I had the chance to compose the list, it would be much different! Jeannine placed actor David McIntosh on her list; and that's fine. Whatever tickles her pickle. But for me, there is something very unsexy about a man with that many tattoos on his torso. No sir! Especially around the lower abdomen area! Ugh! But I have to commend her for including my Puerto-Rican Prettyboy/Cuban Cutie Adam Rodriguez on the list! Yes, sir! LOL!

Anyhoo, I posted my favorite picks on the front page of this post.

BCM's T.I., Michael Ealy, Idris Elba and Chris Brown star in action thriller Takers which hits theaters on May 14, 2010. Directed by John Luessenhop, Takers revolves around a notorious group of criminals (Idris, Paul Walker, T.I., Chris, Hayden Christensen and Michael Ealy) who continue to baffle police by pulling off perfectly executed bank robberies. They are in and out like clockwork, leaving no evidence behind and laying low in between heists. But when they attempt to pull off one last job with more money at stake than ever before, the crew may find their plans interrupted by a hardened detective (Matt Dillon) who is hell-bent on solving the case.

Idris Elba in Essence magazine.

Posted by SouthernGurl

I told my reader FrescaBella I'd post Idris Elba's Essence magazine photospread for her. So here you go, girl! And for a bittersweet extra treat, I've also included an excerpt from the interview where Idris talks about the kind of women he dates.
"You see actors with models and actresses, and it's so cliche. I'd rather date someone who's regular. But what often happens is that she faces huge criticism like, 'Why her? She's Miss Ordinary.'" Idris likes when a woman makes him feel needed. "Be an independent woman. I love that. But at the same time don't be ashamed to, you know, throw your toys on the floor and let me pick them up."
Isn't he something special? Now, earlier I mentioned the word 'bittersweet.' I used that word because although it's refreshing to know that this very sought after bachelor would rather date us 'regular' women, in real life, and much to many women's dismay, he's actually dating a regular, nice woman from New Jersey.

Welcome to BlackCelebrityMen.blogspot.com!

Posted by SouthernGurl

Hi, everyone and welcome to BlackCelebrityMen.blogspot.com. Thanks for visiting.

Nearly a month ago, my 'big sister' Nikki dragged me and my sister to see Tyler Perry's stageplay The Marriage Counselor at the Tallahassee Civic Center. I griped to my sister about attending because no matter how many times I tried to sit and watch a Tyler Perry screenplay, I'd always seem to lose interest once someone broke out into song! Something about someone holding a conversation then all of a sudden breaking out into a song freaked me out. I also never seemed to get past those gaudy stage sets. So when I decided to attend Tyler's play, I made sure to pack at least 2 books and 3 magazines to read once those people started singing. We get to the venue, go to our seats which were waaaaaaaaay up at the very top. I'm a little over five feet tall and I swear I could have touched the concrete beams above me if I stretched far enough!! I became a bit perturbed because although the folks on the stage looked like ants from where I was sitting, the section we were in was also very dim.... which meant I wouldn't be able to read my books and mags once the singing started. So I'm sitting there like, 'Seriously, Jesus?! For real? This is how You gonna do me?' I guess He got mad at me for questioning Him because the next thing I knew, some girl and her date came and sat in the seats next to me. Five seconds later, all I hear is 'CRUNCH, CRUNCH, CRUNCH, SLURP, SLURP, SLURP, CRUNCH, CRUNNNCH, CRUUUUUUNCH!' This heffa and her man both going to town on some damn nachos and sodas! Eventually, the lights go down and show starts. Long story short, I LOVED it! Like I said before, I could barely see the actors, but their performances were so full of energy, I felt as if I had no other choice but to sit back and enjoy the show. I honestly don't remember laughing my ass off the way I did that night. I didn't want the show to end. Actor Palmer Williams, Jr. (who also co-stars on Tyler's House of Payne sitcom): I will never look at him the same again. He gained a new hardcore fan that night in Tallahassee. Timon Kyle Durrett. Yes, sir! The Marriage Counselor marks his stageplay debut. He has also had roles on Girlfriends, CSI NY, CSI Miami, Las Vegas and Heroes (thanks for the added info, Cherry. I had no idea). He gained a new fan in me too....and then some! Eye candy like you wouldn't believe is what he is. Yall might want to keep an eye on him. I see him doing big things in the near future. If you look at my banner on the homepage, he's the guy in between The Rock and Idris Elba. Fine, ain't he? Told ya. Needless to say, I never once reached in my purse to pull out a magazine or book! I told Nikki, 'We have to see this play again!'

That brings me to another reason as to why I started this site. I noticed Tyler cast the most fineness men in his films and plays: Terrell Carter, Lamman Rucker, Christian Keys, Boris Kodjoe, Allen Payne, Henry Simmons, Shemar Moore, Michael Jai White, Richard T. Jones, the aforementioned Timon Kyle Durrett, Blair Underwood, Rick Fox and Lance Gross....just to name a few. Then it hit me. A blog which features nothing but black male celebrities. There's BlackCelebKids.com, a website dedicated to the offspring of black celebrities. There's also a website which celebrates the beauty, style and accomplishments of Black and Brown women in Hollywood; and Pigskin Loving Lady, a blog which features only Black NFL players.

Before launching BlackCelebrityMen, I searched the web high and low in hopes of finding a website dedicated to our Black men in the entertainment and sports industry and came up with nothing. My first thought was to only shed light on the media's sexiest black men. Then I thought to myself, 'That's not fair. What if JoJo (of K-Ci & JoJo) fall and bust his ass again? Or what if 50-leven year old Flavor Flav scores another buffoonery of a reality show? Or Kanye West throws another bitch-fit over the pettiest thing just because he feels the urge to?' Surely I'd be remiss if I didn't acknowledge those events!

All of the explanations above are my primary reasons for creating this blog. Actors, pro athletes, singers, rappers, authors, up-and-coming authors...if they're black men in the the media industry...even the has-beens and the D-list, chances are sooner or later you'll find a post about them here. So take a look around. Hopefully, you'll like what you see and come back for more; and please don't hesitate to tell me what you think of the site. I'm open to any suggestions you all may have that will make this a better blog. Also, I'm still working on adding more blog links as well as a better looking banner for the site as well as an official logo. So if anyone has any suggestions, tips or want to provide assistance, just drop me an email at BlackCelebrityMen@gmail.com.

Once again, I thank you all ever so kindly for visiting BlackCelebrityMen.blogspot.com.
