Justin Combs Sweet 16 birthday party.

Posted by SouthernGurl

Yall know how Diddy do! The mega-mogul gave his firstborn celebrity seed, Justin Dior Combs (who turned 16 back in December) a big, blown-out 'Prince of New York'--themed bash at the M2 Ultra Lounge in New York City last night. Earlier this week a press release was sent out stating that celebrities such as Beyonce, Jay-Z, Chris Brown (what?! Jay-Z and C.B. in the same room?!), Snoop Dogg and boxer Floyd Mayweather would be in the house. But from the pictures that I've seen, neither Jay, Bey or C.B. were in attendance. However, their no-shows didn't stop the party with celebrities like Teyana Taylor, Fabolous, Trey Songz, Lil Kim, DJ Clue, Heavy D., Fabolous, Vince Gill, Juelz Santana, Jim Jones, Irv Gotti, Diggy and JoJo Simmons being up in the place to be. Justin's mother and celebrity stylist Misa Hilton-Brim, his brothers Quincy (Kim Porter's biological son with Al B. Sure, as if you couldn't already tell) and Christian as well as his grandmother Janice Combs were also in attendance.

Justin pulled up to his party arm-in-arm with rapper Nicki Minaj as his 'Princess of New York'--at least for one night. Needless to say, the lavish party will be featured on an upcoming episode of My Super Sweet 16. And like I said before, yall know how Diddy do. No Diddy party would be complete without a grand coup-de-tat. At the end of the night, Diddy presented his son with a brand-new black Mercedes Benz Maybach. For a 16 year old?! It must be nice. Got my grown ass over here wishing Diddy was my damn Daddy. Justin was also given a $10,000 check, which he will donate to the Haiti fund to help earthquake victims.

Now if Diddy went above, beyond and all out for his firstborn, I can only imagine what he has up his sleeve for his youngest son and mini-me Christian who turns 16 in just four more years.

Ray J. and his big sister Brandy were all smiles as they entered Wonderland nightclub in Los Angeles last Wednesday to celebrate Ray J.'s 29th birthday. She tweeted:
I had such a good time celebrating @rayj 's birthday last night.. Best brother any sister can have:) I love the guy!!!
Also, according to Brandy's Twitter page, she is currently filming a reality show with her baby brother.
“Went shopping today on Robertson and the paps were everywhere!!! I loved it. Felt like a SUPERSTAR. Yay!!!! Guess what…filming a new reality show with Ray-J, mom and dadda. It’s gonna be so exciting. PROMISE!!!!!! Personality for days”.
I wonder if the two still plan to record an album together. Back in 2008, Brandy stated that she and Ray were in the planning stages of putting it together. They'd already given the album a name: 'R&B'-- which is short for Ray J and Brandy. I guess only time will tell.

Anyhoo, the season finale of Ray's, For the Love of Ray J 2 will air Feb. 1st on VH1 at 9 p.m.

UPDATE: Teddy Pendergrass' wake and funeral opened to the public.

Posted by SouthernGurl

There's more information regarding Teddy Pendergrass' homegoing services. The public viewing will be held today from noon to 8 p.m. at Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church, 2800 W. Cheltenham Ave in Philadelphia. For folks who were wondering if Teddy's funeral would be opened to the public, it will. After a private viewing for family and special guests, the public is invited to attend the services tomorrow at the church at 10 a.m. The service will include special performances by Tyrese, Will Downing, Stephanie Mills and Melba Moore.

Burial services afterward are for family and friends only.

Also, in lieu of flowers, donations to benefit charities can be made through the Teddy Pendergrass Memorial Fund. Make checks out to Theodore P. and Joan Pendergrass, P.O. Box 382, Gladwyne, Pa. 19035.

When Pendergrass died Jan. 13 after a fight with colon cancer, "the world lost one of the greatest and most sensual of soul singers, a gruff-voiced bedroom balladeer to whom every R&B love man from R. Kelly to Usher owes a seducer's debt," according to Inquirer music critic Dan DeLuca.

Tyrese paid a special tribute to Teddy a few nights ago on George Lopez' Lopez Tonight Show by performing one of Teddy's signature ballads, Come Go With Me.

Essence magazine's Top 10 Sexy Men.

Posted by SouthernGurl

As promised, here's Essence magazine's February 2010 issue featuring their top 10 sexiest men that I said I would post up for you all. HERE.). With the exception of having Idris, Lance, Maxwell and LL Cool J. on the list, I, for one, am not impressed. (Read my gripe concerning this particular issue by clicking I've never even heard of at least two of the men on the list.

Inside the magazine, it says 'There's nothing like a dream lover. He's always sexy and romantic, with movie star good looks and the chiseled body of an athlete. Plus, he's got all the right moves. Channeling her inner bad girl, our own Jeannine Amber spins ten naughty tales starring some of our favorite men to curl up with, if only in our minds.' I don't know about all of that. What I do know is if I had the chance to compose the list, it would be much different! Jeannine placed actor David McIntosh on her list; and that's fine. Whatever tickles her pickle. But for me, there is something very unsexy about a man with that many tattoos on his torso. No sir! Especially around the lower abdomen area! Ugh! But I have to commend her for including my Puerto-Rican Prettyboy/Cuban Cutie Adam Rodriguez on the list! Yes, sir! LOL!

Anyhoo, I posted my favorite picks on the front page of this post.

Click 'READ MORE AFTER THE JUMP' to see the rest of the men on the list.

Mystikal's first post-jail interview.

Posted by SouthernGurl

As most of you probably know by now, Baton Rouge, Louisiana rapper Mystikal, who served 6 years in prison on rape and tax evasion charges was released last Friday. Mystikal called in to Q93 FM for his first interview since leaving jail. Below I posted several excerpts from the interview.
On how he maintained his sanity while in jail: "To be honest, I didn't do nothing. It had to be God. I couldn't do that. When I look at it now it seems like it was easy because it's over with. But going through it was tough. I just had to get out my way and let God handle it for me."

On how he feels about being out of prison: "I'm back! I'm still trying to feel this reality. It almost feels like a dream. For a while, it felt like I was gone so long and all the things I achieved and all the escalades (blogger's note: I'm pretty sure he meant to say accolades) I'd attained, it felt like it was a dream, man. It felt like I had never done that stuff before. But watch how I shake this world up now!"

On other rappers who have been incarcerated and if he feels like hip-hop artists are being targeted: "I don't know, I think we just have to pay more attention to what we doing ourself. It's an easy excuse to say that. But we got to take responsibilities for what we do too. We can't be foolish especially when you're blessed and successful beyond your dreams. Come on, man, we got to tightened up."

On creating mentoring programs for young people: "Definitely. I'mma let them lil knucklehead kids know that that dog that's barking at them, he bit me. I'm going to be doing a lot of positive things and yall gonna see a lot of me. Most artists wouldn't be able to sustain a blow like I took. Six years off the team for most rappers, it would be over. But this gon be the beginning for me. I'm fitna get my reparations. Believe that. WATCH YOURSELF! I'm coming back."

On the events he regrets missing out on because of his incarceration: "Katrina. With Katrina I felt like I could have done so much for my city. I was at the height of my career. I was supposed to be splashing in that water out there. I was supposed to be helping my people. But I couldn't do nothing but look. And Barack Obama. That man got me involved in politics and paying attention and watching the news. I was never into all that stuff like that. But I'm proud of that. Real proud. I wasn't out there but I still felt it. I was with him 100 percent. I couldn't cast one vote, but I was there; heart and spirit all the way.

On my way home to my mama. I gonna hug her and squeeze her. I haven't seen her since I left Hunt three years ago."

On writing songs in jail: "WHAT?! Yall gon see, man. Yall, gonna see. I ain't gonna talk about all that right now, I'm just gon let yall know that I'm back and I love yall and I missed yall and I want to send out all my appreciations to the fans that's been supporting me. Tons and tons of fan mail. Thanks for looking out for me, man."

On Shaq visiting him in jail: "Yeah, he came and peeped in and showed me some love."

"On if he still has a relationship with Master P: Uh, I hadn't talked to him since then. I had talked to C (Murder) when he was at Hunt (correctional facility)."

Morris Chestnut on love, marriage, monogamy and fatherhood.

Posted by SouthernGurl

The oh-so-beautiful Morris Chestnut sat down with Sister 2 Sister magazine and spilled details about his personal life. In the interview he discussed how he met his wife, being a father an his longevity in the entertainment business.

Peep the excerpts from the article below.
MORRIS ON HOW HE MET & FELL IN LOVE WITH HIS WIFE: We met in a club. I was doing something in Atlanta and at the time it was Deion Sanders, Ron Grant and a dude named Tiny Lister (Deebo from Friday). I was doing a tv movie out there and I went to the club. Tiny was living in Atlanta. he knew the ins and outs of the city, and he was just like, Mr. Atlanta. We were hanging out in the club and he told me about this chick, that chick, whatever. Then I saw Pam, who is my wife, and I said, 'What's up with her?'He said, 'Nah, man, don't waste your time. She don't give anybody no play.' So as soon as he said that, I was like, 'That's the woman I need to go holler at.' One of the things that made me truly realize that I wanted her to be my wife is the way she was. She has three older sisters and they have kids. Her nephew was very young at the time, and when we were dating I would see the way she was with kids. I've always thought that she was a good person and attractive and all that, but one of the primary reasons why I wanted her to be my wife was because I knew that she would be an excellent mother to my kids.

MORRIS ON HOW HIS WIFE FEELS ABOUT HIS ONSCREEN LOVE SCENES: She knows that she is number one to me. She's very secure and comfortable in our marriage.

MORRIS ON RAISING & DISCIPLINING HIS CHILDREN: Just in general, I always tell them when I drop them off to school to be smart and be good people. I have a son and a daughter. My son is 12 and my daughter will be 11 this month. From an early age I would always teach my son, 'I don't care what your sister does, you never hit a woman.' It took a while because kids are kids. But, 'Never, ever, hit a woman. I don't care if she does it, you always come tell me.' I've never hit my daughter. My daughter worries about her mother before me. I'm a strong disciplinarian, and they always know certain things are going to get a 'no' from me. But when they know they've done something wrong they don't want to feel the wrath of their mother.

MORRIS ON IF HE THINKS MEN CAN BE MONOGAMOUS: Yes, I definitely think me can be monogamous. It's up to the individual and what they've done through their life. Two of my closest friends never cheated on their wives, but their wives cheated on them. Most of them understand where I'm coming from. One of my good friends, he's always on the scene. But when he wants to have a solid relationship with a woman who he respects and he can have a conversation with and just have a good time together, he doesn't have that.

MORRIS ON HIS LONGEVITY AS AN ACTOR: A method actor is basically someone who feels they have to go through it and live it to be able to re-create it. With me, no. A lot of actors may put on some type of front or some type of facade, but in my experience, when you really know actors, the most brilliant ones are the most--how can I say it? I don't want to say mentally imbalanced, but the most brilliant ones have a little something missing. That's why when you hear stories about actors causing all this turmoil on sets and everything, when they get to set, they want everybody else to be insecure because they are insecure. They want to cause all these problems and that really brings out their best work. It's interesting how that is. I have never been that type. That's one of the reasons why I've been here so long. I come to work everyday on time, know my lines, have everything down, don't cause problems and we keep it moving.
In other news, Morris and his production partner Haven Mitchell are developing a romantic comedy sitcom by the name of Ring My Bell. The two are developing the show under their shingle Dark Skin Productions, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Mitchell has written the project, which he and Chestnut would produce with Veronica Nichols and Tri- Destined partner N.D. Brown.
