Today, August 29th marks what would have been Michael Jackson's 52nd birthday. Words can't begin to express how much this man was loved, adored and cherished by nearly a billion people, including me. And although he left us a little over a year ago, his contributions to the world will live on forever. His legacy will never die. No matter how you feel about Michael as a person, no one can deny his profound influence on music, music videos and philanthropy.

He is loved and missed dearly.

Needless to say, Michael left a mark with some of the greatest songs ever recorded. So in honor of that, I would like to celebrate his life by posting MJ's You Rock My World (with Chris Tucker) video. Well, I can't honestly say this song is one of my favorites because as a lifelong fan, there is no such thing as having a favorite MJ song/video. But since I can't post each and everyone of his videos, I chose an up-tempo song that makes me want to get up and dance my ass off as soon as I hear its intro.

Thursday, July 1st marked the fifth anniversary of the death of Luther Vandross at the age of 54 from a heart attack after suffering a massive stroke in 2003.

I loved me some Luther. I remember when I was younger I wanted him to be my uncle. I think one of the reasons I loved and admired him so much was because my parents use to play his music ALL THE TIME when I was a kid; especially at their house parties. One of the first Luther songs I ever heard and learned verbatim was Bad Boy/Having a Party. I think it was one of their favorites too because they'd play that song 4 or 5 times during their parties and I'd be in my room (because I was too young to be partying with the grown folk) dancing my ass off. It wasn't until they were clearing everyone out of the house that I was allowed to come out of my room and really jam to the song like I wanted too.

But to this day I don't have a favorite Luther Vandross song (same goes for Michael) because he had just too many. I can't even begin to tell anyone what my favorite Luther Vandross song is because there is no such thing as far as I'm concerned.

Needless to say, I was sad as hell when I learned of his passing. My mother was too...considering the fact that my father has just passed from cancer 5 months before. I watched Luther's funeral online and boo hoo'd the entire time. And I still cry when I listen to certain songs; specifically Dance With My Father. With singers like Luther, Jackie, Marvin, Michael and Teddy P. gone, I can only imagine the "sweet sounds coming down on the nightshift."

I hope singers like El DeBarge continue to take care of themselves so that we can continue to enjoy their voices while they're still here.

Jermaine Jackson is sounding off on Chris Brown's emotional tribute to Michael Jackson at the B.E.T. Awards; and he's basically saying the same thing so many other folks have said in the past two days: Chris Brown deserves a second chance. He told tv show Extra!:

"He's a human being like all others, we all make mistakes. He deserves to perform because it's healing for him. How can he learn from his mistakes if you don't give him the chance? He needs that. I support him a thousand per cent; I'm not supporting what he did because it was wrong, but, at the same time, we have to give him a chance. If Christ can forgive us all, we can look at Chris Brown. People make mistakes, they need support, and he's a wonderful performer."

I'mma need Jer-making-me-sick to stop gallivanting his prancy-fancy ass over in Paris and come do something about his bad ass trigger-happy kids. Earlier this month, online reports alleged Jaafar had purchased a stun gun online and allegedly used it on Michael's sons, Prince and Blanket. Katherine Jackson and her people insist that incident was an isolated event, while Jermaine claims his son "never touched Blanket with that thing." Michael must be rolling! The stun gun was eventually seized by L.A. County Department of Children and Family Services.

However, yesterday, TMZ got their hands on a home video (who leaked the video to TMZ is the bigger question) that shows Jermaine's son Jaafar pulling a gun (it's not yet known if the gun is real or a toy gun) on his younger brother Jermajesty. According to TMZ:

The scene -- which appears to have been shot several months ago -- begins with Jaafar (left) barging into Jermajesty's room, gun drawn, and then ordering his little brother to get on the ground. Jaafar pushes Jermajesty to the ground, pretends to pistol-whip him, handcuffs him and then gives the youngster an incomplete version of his Miranda rights. Jaafar then tells his brother, "Don't move or I'll bust your head open."

Jaafar then cocks the gun, points it to Jermajesty's head, pulls the trigger and you hear the click. Jermajesty plays dead and Jaafar drags him by the leg out of the room.

TMZ decided not to post the video.

But seriously, Jer-Fameless, your mama should not be raising your damn kids! It ain't like you have a whole lot of stuff to do. Therefore, come get your kids! I mean really!

Over the holiday weekend, director Spike Lee revealed the official video for Michael Jackson's posthumous single This Is It; and it's beautiful. I guarantee you once you watch it you will fall in love with Michael all over again and miss him even more. I know I did. It seemed like Spike went into my own personal collection of my most favorite photos of MJ that I have saved over the years and used them to illustrate this video. The video also show footage shot in Jackson's hometown of Gary, Indiana, and fan tributes following his death June 25.

It starts off in Gary with a close-up of a poster directing fans toward Jackson's childhood home, at the corner of 2300 Jackson Street and Jackson Family Blvd. Next, images of Jackson performing as a child are interspersed with soft-focus shots of play sets, baseball bats and city buildings. A central image captured by the director is a plea for tolerance etched onto a stop sign in Gary. Someone wrote the message "This Is It" above the word "stop," under which they've added "hatin'." There are also shots of fan tributes from around the world and the heaps of flowers and messages laid at the gates of the singer's Neverland Ranch. Lee returns several times to moving images of a single red balloon floating in the air and empty swings swaying in the breeze.

Finally, the video closes with classic footage of Jackson doing the moonwalk and a dramatic pan to a black stool with Jackson's trademark black fedora and silver glove under a spotlight in front of the Gary residence.

One thing I've learned about Usher is that no matter what is going on his private/personal life, he makes and takes the time to continue to help those in need. And these days it seems like Usher spends most of his time giving back to his community and other various charities, than singing and performing; much like his idol/role model Michael Jackson. I once heard Usher say that one of the reasons why he's such a big Michael Jackson fan is because of the philanthropic work Michael has bestowed upon others...in life and death. And that's a good look. So maybe it's a good thing that his new album Raymond vs. Raymond was pushed back to a later date. It gives Usher more time to give back through his charity, Usher’s New Look which he started back in 1999. According to its official website, Usher designed the foundation to reach talented youth from diverse socio-economic backgrounds and provide them with a chance to learn firsthand about the business side of the sports and entertainment industries.

This Sunday, (December 6, 2009 at 8:00 p.m., EST), Usher will be featured on ABC's EXTREME MAKEOVER: HOME EDITION where he travels back to his home state of Tennessee to give Trina Scott, a widow, and her three daughters the good news that their problem-ridden home will be rebuilt in just seven days.

Trina, 44, met her husband Dave while he was serving with U.S. Army Special Forces in Fort Bragg – and it was love at first sight. After his discharge, Dave became a Clarksville police officer. In 2002, he and his partner were on duty when their police car was violently struck by a truck. The car spun out of control, hit a guardrail, caught fire and killed both Dave and his partner almost instantly. Overwhelmed with grief, Trina turned to a group called Concerns of Police Survivors, Inc. (C.O.P.S.), which helps the surviving family members of officers killed in the line of duty. Inspired by the help she received from C.O.P.S., Trina devoted all of her free time to the organization and became its President in 2003. The time that Trina dedicates to C.O.P.S. represents essentially a full-time job, and that’s on top of the full time job she works to support her three daughters -- Leyla, 17, Deidie, 13, and Alethea, 11. Trina has spent more than $20,000 on the mounting repairs to her small home, but the structural problems caused by termites and water damage remain.

I heard a throwback from Silk the other day. I believe it was Lose Control (I loved John-John's voice! He was my favorite member until I heard him refer to his children as his very own 'rainbow coalition.' No sir. Needless to say, that crush died with the quickness!). I love that song! Of course, after listening to the song, I couldn't help but finish listening to the rest of the cd. I wondered what the members of Silk were up to these days so my nosy-by-nature self checked their myspace accounts and learned that the group still perform together very often, which is a good look. Lil G. left the group in 2002 to release his debut solo album. Soon after he began performing in several stage plays, but it looks like he's back for good.

On ajc.com, I found pics of the guys performing at the Delta Classic Chastain Concert Series last August in Atlanta. En Vogue and Tony, Toni Tone also performed.

Looks like I've been sleeping on Silk for the past couple of years because according to their Myspace page:

In 2006 the group returned with their sixth album "Always And Forever" this time on well known R&B/Soul, Contemporary, and Jazz label Shanachie Records. The album featured covers of classics from the 70s, 80s, and 90s R&B. The songs on the album included remakes of Adore by Prince, Don't Disturb This Groove by The System, Always And Forever by Heatwave, Nite And Day by Al B. Sure, Secret Garden (Seduction Suite) by Quincey Jones, The Lady In My Life by Michael Jackson, Two Occasions by The Deele, and Side Show by Blue Magic also appeared on this album. Secret Garden was the first single for which a video was also released.

I think I may have to go cop that. And you best believe if they f-ed up my man's song, which also happens to be my favorite song from the Thriller album, I will be back to blog and bitch about it. Trust and believe.

Michael was finally and permanently laid to rest last night. At 9:43 p.m. (pacific standard time) to be exact. I had said that I wasn't going to post anything regarding Michael's funeral because it felt like it would do nothing but open up old wounds and make me start bawling like a baby all over again. It just hurts too much. Below are several details from his funeral.

• Paris Jackson wept as she stepped into the mausoleum where her father, Michael, was to be entombed. As Jackson's brothers carried his golden casket from an outdoor seating area into the mausoleum, Katherine Jackson, overcome by sorrow, turned back when she was faced with her son's final resting place.

• The Rev. Al Sharpton, who gave a eulogy at the public event and at Thursday's service, also extolled Knight's earlier performance of The Lord's Prayer. "Gladys Knight sang her heart out. Now we prepare to lay him to rest," Sharpton posted on his Twitter account during the service that was held outside and then within the marble mausoleum.

• The mourners followed the crowned, lushly flower-draped casket as Jackson's five brothers — each wearing a bright red tie and a single crystal-studded glove — carried it into the mausoleum. The 11-year-old Paris cried as the group entered the imposing building and was comforted by her aunt, LaToya.

• Paris and brothers Prince Michael, 12, and Prince Michael II, 7, known as Blanket, began the service by placing the crown on their father's golden casket. They were composed through most of the hour-and-a-half ceremony.

• Jackson will share eternity at Forest Lawn with the likes of Clark Gable, Jean Harlow and W.C. Fields, entombed alongside them in the mausoleum that will be all but off-limits to adoring fans who might otherwise turn the pop star's grave into a shrine. The closest the public will be able to get to Jackson's vault is a portion of the mausoleum that displays "The Last Supper Window," a life-size stained-glass re-creation of Leonardo da Vinci's masterpiece.

• "I feel like I watched Michael finally given some peace and I made a commitment to make sure his legacy and what he stood for lives on," Sharpton said outside the restaurant around midnight. "So at one level we're relieved; another level we're obligated."

This sheisty dog, here! Can I tell yall why I'm mad? I found these candids of Michael's brother JerPain(in the ass) a.k.a. Jermaine and his latest wife shopping for million dollar condos the other day. What for? His ass ain't got no job. It was just two years ago when he told a judge, who was about to put him behind bars for non-payment of child support for that football team of kids he has, that he only made $10,000 in 2007. How'd he go from living in his mama house to shopping for condos? Yeah, I'm feeling some type of way about ol dude. And to say he is not one of my favorite people would be a gross understatement.

I also refer to him as JerManiac because his ass has been completely out of control since Michael's death. If you want to know the real deal and all the sheisty things JerMonkey did to his baby brother, I suggest you read JerInsane's common-law wife's (Margaret Maldonado) book Jackson Family Values. He has appeared on Larry King Live about 5 times talking about his 'existence is now dedicated to spreading Michael’s message.' Man, please. I do not need you to help me remember what Michael's purpose in life was. Real talk. Jer-Greasy is the same dude who wrote that filthy song about his own brother in hopes that he would tarnish and destroy his image....all because Michael wasn't returning his phone calls. Years later, after Michael pulled rank and got the song yanked off the airwaves, Jermaine carried on in his quest to ruin Michael again when he began writing a tell-all book that did what? Bash Michael.

Just trifling. Now do yall understand why JerMooch-A-lot talked until he was blue in the face about wanting Michael to be buried at Neverland? So that he could profit off his brother's death and possibly even dance on top of his grave at his convenience. Dude would do anything to live off of other people! Michael's memory and legacy is going to live on forever...even after Jermaine is dead and gone.

GET A DAMN JOB!

Anyone who wasn't moved or didn't shed a tear or just didn't feel some type of way during Usher's rendition of Michael's song, Gone Too Soon (a song I have tried to avoid listening to for obvious reasons), needs to check their pulse. I had to use a wash rag because I didn't have enough Kleenex to wipe my tears away during that performance. Dude had me bawling especially when he walked down and placed his hand on Michael's coffin. Then to hear him choke up the way he did just tugged at my heart because I was feeling the same way. He loved and admired Michael so much. Usher looked up to and respected Michael the way Michael looked up to and respected James Brown. I once heard Usher say that Michael was one of the main reasons why he became a philanthropist. And these days it seems like Usher--like Michael--spends most of his time giving back to the community and other charities than singing and performing. That's a good look.

Usher, everyone felt your pain today, but we all know the pain you felt was a hundred times harder than what we felt because of your close relationship with Michael. But just so you know, you are not alone. Bless your heart.

How beautiful was Michael's memorial?! It couldn't have been better. It was classy, well-planned and memorable. The organizers even when as far as including Michael in his own memorial by using taped recordings. Hearing his voice really made it feel like he was there in spirit. I also loved how the audience was so respectful of the Jackson family during the tribute. And what a tribute it was! I honestly didn't want it to end. I laughed a little and thanks to Usher, Jennifer, Marlon and Michael's daughter Paris, I cried a lot. At times I found myself clapping along with the audience...especially after Rev. Al Sharpton's speech. I thought he was going to start preaching when he began talking about Michael. He said, “Every time he got knocked down, he got back up.” I believe that was in reference to how the media treated and negatively portrayed Michael during his life and even after his death. I smiled when Rev. Sharpton told Michael's kids, “There wasn’t nothing strange about your daddy. It was strange what your daddy had to deal with!” That comment is pretty much self-explanatory.

I knew the service would be emotional for me. But when the Andrae Crouch Gospel Choir started singing Soon and Very Soon and I saw Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon and Randy wheel their brother's gold casket to the front of the stage, I ain't even gonna lie: I lost it. However, as wonderful as the memorial was, I don't see myself watching it again, even though it will remain on my DVR. Watching the show wore me out! Did yall know that you can become physically tired if you cry long and hard enough? The bittersweet tears I shed were in the same class at the tears I cried when my mama whoop my ass back in the day. True story.

MICHAEL JACKSON: THE GREATEST ENTERTAINER WHO EVER LIVED.

I don't even know where to start. I am still shell-shocked and in disbelief. If you know me then you know how much his death has affected me. I truly feel like I have lost a member of my own family. It's so hard to believe that he is gone. So hard. Needless to say, my heart goes out to the Jackson family during this time. Speaking of time. As I type this the Jackson clan have left their compound in chauffeur-driven black Rolls Royces, Range Rovers, Bentleys and limousine buses en route to attend Michael's private funeral at the Forest Lawn Mortuary. About 100 people--mostly family members...yall know there are a lot of Jacksons!--will be in attendance. After the private service, the family will be escorted by the California Highway Patrol to the star-studded public memorial at the Staples Center. Contrary to many reports, Michael's body will be either flown in by helicopter (if there is an issue of safety) or escorted by the LAPD Swat Team to the Staples Center. This is history in the making, yall. I'm pretty sure that never again will there be such a huge send-off for such a well-loved celebrity of any kind. Michael is the epitome and the ultimate definition of an icon so he deserves to have such a colossal homegoing service.

Last weekend, when I watched Michael's interview with that sheisty so-called journalist Martin Bashir back in 2003. In one segment of the interview Michael and Bashir were at a store in Las Vegas. When they came stopped in front of an Egyptian coffin, Bashir asked Michael would he ever want to be buried in something like that. Michael said, 'No, I would never want to be buried. I want to live forever.' Just thinking about that brings tears to my eyes because 6 years later, here we are saying good-bye to him. But I digress.

Since Chris Brown was robbed (depending on who you ask like my silly baby sister) of his chance to pay tribute to his role model and my late husband, Michael Jackson at the B.E.T. Awards, he decided to put on an impromptu performance at Diddy and Ashton Kutcher's 4th of July White Party which was held to help raise awareness for malaria (that's a good look) in Beverly Hills on Saturday when the deejay played Michael's Thriller. As you can see in the youtube clip, once the song started playing and the guests got pumped up, Chris decided this was his chance to put on a performance. When folks started hyping him up, he got more into it. The party was being broadcast live on Ustream so that people who weren't fortunate enough to receive an invite could watch their favorite celebrities mix and mingle from the comfort of their own home.

Anyhoo, I heard that Chris Brown wanted desperately to honor Michael at the B.E.T. Awards. In a recent interview, Jamie Foxx said Chris didn't perform that night for safety reasons. Whether he was joking or not, I don't know. Rumors ran rampant through the blogosphere as to why he was shut out. And although Chris hasn't commented on the reports, a source close to his camp told MTV News that he was never confirmed to be a part of the show and the rumors regarding Brown and BET were untrue; a spokesperson for BET corroborated that information, adding that “the rumors are false.”

Real talk: Chris, sweetie, I'm honored that you looked up to Michael so much and considered him as your role model, but there will never be another King of Pop; and yes, I know you already know this. You have the dancing abilities, yes indeed, and no one can take that away from you; but in my opinion that's where it ends. With the tattoos, dwindling record sales, sagging pants, history of physical abuse and disrespect towards others, you look more like a protege of Joe 'I'mma beat yo ass, boy!' Jackson...not Michael Jackson. Call me bias but these were my thoughts even before Michael passed away. But you get an 'A+' for effort though and I'm sure he would have appreciated it. Bless your heart.

According to cbsnews.com, the PR firm Sachs & Associates announced that within the first hour-and-a-half of allowing fans to sign up for the drawing, the Web site received 500,000,000 hits, averaging 120,000 per second. Duplicate registrations are not allowed, so those seeking a chance are being asked to log on only once. Meanwhile, an additional server has been added to accommodate the volume of traffic.

Ain't that something?!! Even in death, Michael continues to break more records; sending legions of fans, stans and haters in a complete frenzy.

If you plan on attending Michael Jackson's public memorial on next Tuesday, there are a couple of important things you need to know. A press conference was held today where Los Angeles city and law officials carved out the details of how folks can receive free tickets to the memorial. First and foremost: If you don't have a ticket, you ain't getting in. You will be turned away from the Staples Center by the LAPD. Below are more key points from the press conference.

Were you as pissed off as I was while watching B.E.T.'s (or as I refer to them: Barely Entertainment Television) crap of a tribute to Michael Jackson? With their messy-ass, tacky-ass selves! Yeah, I said it! At first I wasn't going to post anything about it, but now the more I think about it, the madder I get. Is that how you salute a worldwide legend and icon? Somebody done told them wrong. From Bobby Brown's nasty tongue-licking gesture during New Edition's opening performance (which would have been perfect had he kept his tongue in his damn mouth) to Ciara's awful rendition of Michael's Heal the World (she should never be allowed to touch a mic when it comes to singing ballads. No ma'am!) to three or four performances by Jamie Foxx (when he wasn't promoting his upcoming tour) and Neyo to having to have to sit through and watch Trey Songz (Ginuwine would have been the better choice) annihilate the Ojays medley with Tyrese and Johnny Gill to seeing Joe Jackson sitting out in the audience snapping his fingers and nodding his head as if his geriatric ass didn't have anything better to do to the obvious absences of Usher and Chris Brown who were both slated to perform a tribute to Michael to....well you get my drift. Overall, that awards ceremony was not only God-awful, it also didn't commemorate Michael's memory and legacy the way it deserved. All the profanity. I caught at least one 'f*ck' and about two 'sh!ts.' Just disrespectful, especially when folks knew the show was live and a tribute to Michael Jackson. I mean really, yall! Nearly four hours of complete and total madness is what it was.

What you see above are images of Michael Jackson at his last full dress rehearsal, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, as he prepared for his 'This Is It' tour which was scheduled to kick-off in just a few weeks. Today CNN provided exclusive video footage from that rehearsal. Unfortunately what no one knew is that just a few short hours after Michael wrapped that rehearsal, he would later be found dead in his home at the age of 50. Over 100 hours of rehearsal footage has been captured on tape and according to some reports, there are plans to release it on DVD. Let's cross our fingers. Check out a clip below.

Watching the video emoted bittersweet feelings for me. Michael looked like his regular self; although several media reports claimed he was too frail to rehearse even after being given a clean bill of health back in March. It didn't look that way to me. All I see when I look at this video is a man who was determined to give his fans what they wanted. A chance to see him live in concert performing his past hits for one last time. He even took it a step further by reverting back to his hairstyle from his Smooth Criminal days. Bless his heart! LOL!

He will be thoroughly missed.

In related news, the Staples Center will also be the site of Jackson's memorial service, which is scheduled for Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the 20,000-seat Los Angeles coliseum, according to a person briefed by a family representative. Still no word on where Michael's final resting place will be.

More information, or should I say speculation, has surfaced regarding the sudden death of Michael Jackson who passed away on Thursday afternoon from cardiac arrest after medical officials tried for over an hour to resuscitate him. According to the latest reports, Brian Oxman, a former spokesperson for the Jackson family has made claims stating that Michael's death was most likely due to an overdose of Demerol (a extremely strong narcotic painkiller) which was administered to the star on a daily basis by his doctor for dance-related injuries. The lawyer also said that he had warned folks in Michael's camp of the dangers and possible grim outcome if the singer continued abusing drugs. "I had warned everyone that I could warn and I told them that one day, Michael Jackson is going to wake up dead, which is a very odd way of putting it," Oxman said. "I said one day, we're going to have this experience. And when Anna Nicole Smith passed away, I said we cannot have this kind of thing with Michael Jackson. The result was, I warned everyone, and lo and behold, here we are. I don't know what caused his death. But I feared this day, and here we are. I do not want to point fingers at anyone because I want to hear what the toxicology report says and the coroner says but the plain fact of the matter is that Michael Jackson had prescription drugs at his disposal at all times," he said. An autopsy was performed today and the coroner said determining the cause of Michael's death will require further neuropathology and pulmonary tests that will take four to six weeks. He went on to say that although Jackson was taking some unspecified prescription medications, there were no signs of foul play or trauma to the body during the three-hour autopsy.
Michael's body will be released once the family selects a mortuary.

Last week, Jermaine Jackson blabbed to reporters about his family's (Michael and Janet included, because let's face it, there would be no reason whatsoever to attend a Jackson tour if these two aren't performing) plans to reunite for a worldwide tour next year. "This has been a long time coming for the Jackson family to get back together. It is just the timing, so what we've been doing is working on the music and all the logistics. It is going to be more like a family affair, Janet's going to open and, of course, the original Jackson 5 ... Michael, Randy and the whole family ... we're in the studio, we're planning on being out there next year," Jermaine was quoted by the national Australian Associated Press news agency as saying.

Well, either someone forgot to mention this to Michael or Jermaine's perm/conk relaxer has seeped into his brain making him delusional. Soon after this story leaked, Michael released a statement to Billboard.com saying he has no intentions of going on tour with his siblings. "My brothers and sisters have my full love and support, and we’ve certainly shared many great experiences, but at this time I have no plans to record or tour with them. I am now in the studio developing new and exciting projects that I look
forward to sharing with my fans in concert soon."
