Usher's new album gets release date; divorce finalized.

Posted by SouthernGurl

UPDATE: For those of you hoping to get or give Usher's new c.d. as a gift this holiday season will have to wait because the album's release date has been pushed back for now. A new date is still being determined. According to Usher's spokesperson, "This is a solid album that we believe in. We want to give it a proper launch. We believe that the album is so strong that we want to give it the opportunity to have the proper set-up before coming out."

Usher's record label, Jive Records, announced yesterday that the singer's new album Raymond V. Raymond will hit record store shelves on December 21st. Just in time for Christmas. Isn't that coincidental? The set is led by current single, Papers, which is No. 2 this week on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs.

Usher is just full of coincidences this year. I'm sure no one is surprise to learn that along with the release of his new album comes news that he is once again a single man. The singer's divorce has finally been finalized. It was made official earlier this month after the Superior Court in Fulton County, Georgia, issued a final decree, thereby, legally ending his two-year marriage to Tameka Foster Glover Raymond. It was Usher who filed for divorce in June, claiming his marriage was "irretrievably broken" with "no reasonable hope of reconciliation."

Mmmm-hmmm, just earlier this year, a track Usher recorded called Get Used to Her hit the Internet. In the song, Usher pops off at the mouth to folks who had anything negative to say about his and Tameka's marriage....specifically Tameka's own family. Here's an excerpt:
"...Tell your family I don't mean no disrespect/But trust me later on down the road they'll get it/when I prove to them you're the one that changed me/And we have our own little girl, that looks just like you/But I don't wanna prove myself no more/tryna figure out what it is they hate me for/but the rules and the game ain't changed because we in love....

....that's why I'm so focused/when I'm thinkin of you baby/but everybody wanna see us give it up/I really didn't mean to fall/better get use to her, here in right here/she ain't never, she ain't never goin' nowhere/she's the one that's gon' have my baby it's so clear/she's gon' be the one that's givin' me love when you ain't there/please believe it/if you use to me, you better get use to her..."
That was back in January. And just 10 months later, he's gone from telling folks to Get Used to Her to telling everybody, including her, he was ready to sign them Papers.
"I can't, get to work on time, can't believe the words to her I just said/But who the hell argue n fight like dogs at 6 in the morning?/I know its gonna' be some more shit tonight/Our pastor's callin, tellin me I done went too far in/I'm seen around town and my friends can't recognize me/'cuz I took a chance on love, it's like, I'm dyin'...

For you I gave my heart and turned my back against the world/'Cause you were my girl, girl, girl/I done damn near lost my mama/I done been through so much drama/I done turned into the man that I never thought I'd be/I'm ready to sign them papers, papers, papers..."

Time flies, huh, Ush? Well, at least you got two beautiful baby boys out of all of this. As for Tameka, don't expect her to drop your last name anytime soon. Chances are she is going to continue to use that Raymond name until the day she dies...just out of spite...especially if Usher remarries; which is funny, because she didn't take no time at all dumping her first husband's last name (Glover) even before they were divorced.

Tameka's on a roll in 2009. Five kids, four of those kids at home, three baby daddies, two failed marriages and a partridge in a pear tree! Just in time for Christmas!

Darius McCrary is the new Malcom Winters on Young & the Restless.

Posted by SouthernGurl

Let me find out I'm over here about to throw a certified bitch-fit something proper-like! The Young & the Restless have cast actor Darius McCrary as the new 'Malcolm Winters'! To this, I say, 'NO SIR!' I don't mean to sound mean (okay, maybe just a little bit) but don't nobody want to see Darius with his shirt off! Or to hear his annoying ass voice! Do yall know how many actors out there could have taken over this role and did it some justice? Hell, just take a look at some of the B.C.M.'s posted on the first page of this blog. I can definitely see actor Timon Kyle Durrett in this role. Although Timon doesn't have an expansive resume like Darius, he's still well-seasoned enough to pick up where Shemar left off. If you saw his performance in Tyler Perry's screen play The Marriage Counselor, you'd know what I'm talking about. But I digress. What's ironic is I knew that there had been a casting call to find another Malcolm Winters, so yesterday I was going to make a post about my wanting Shemar Moore to return to Y&R to reprise his role as the original Malcolm Winters. The reason why I didn't publish the post is because there had been no comment made from Shemar as to rather or not he would even consider taking over the role again.

Enough of my bitching and moaning. Let me get down to the specifics. According to Entertainment Weekly, Darius--who we all know played Eddie Winslow on Family Matters and later became the laughing stock of the urban blogosphere when he hooked up with Karrine 'Superhead' Steffans--has signed a multi-year deal to assume the role beginning Nov. 18. His debut will air on Dec. 29.
“We are thrilled to have the character of Malcolm back on Y&R. Malcolm, Neil Winters’ brother, has always been a catalyst to exciting stories. He’s coming back to town to see his brother and to reunite with his biological daughter, Lily Winters, as she fights for her life. Malcolm is a photographer … someone who lives on the edge and who always pushes the envelope,” according to a statement from Maria Bell, Y&R's co-executive producer/head writer.

Though he left the sudser in 2005 to co-star in Criminal Minds, Moore once entertained the thought of briefly returning to the show that made him a star. His reps could not be reached for comment, but it seems obvious that Moore’s busy schedule (Minds is about to air its 100th episode) – combined with the fact that Bell wanted the Malcolm character back full-time - made it impossible for Moore to return (one insider even said that Moore has been approached before about coming back to the show but it was clear that it wouldn’t work out because of his commitment to Minds).
After reading EW's article while in my right mind--because I spazzed out when I heard about Darius becoming Malcolm--I, now I realize that there was no way Shemar could have returned to the show while still under contract with Criminal Minds. However, it still does not mean that I am not still pissed off to the highest level of pisstivity about Darius getting this role over.... I can't even finish my sentence. I mean really! What do yall see when yall think of Malcolm Winters? No need to answer. I already know.

But in all fairness though, I want to wish Darius much luck in his new role. I'll be the first to tell you that it's going to take me (and others, I'm sure) some time to get use to the new Malcolm Winters. Don't fuck it up because I will blog about it! LOL! Seriously, I will. Nevertheless, you have my support. I guess...

Yeah, my psyche is all messed up right about now.

Mehcad Brooks on gay marriage & being a sex symbol.

Posted by SouthernGurl

True Blood star Mehcad Brooks (according to Essence, Mehcad’s mother derived his name from the ancient Ethiopian word meaning “prophet” or “wise one.” Mehcad says: “Little did she know that I’d make a profit off being a wise ass.”) recently opened up to Honey magazine about everything from his reluctance to being a sex symbol, why he won't get married until gays gain the right to marry and why he chooses to focus on his career instead of focusing on finding a wife.
MEHCAD ON GAY RIGHTS & WHY HE WON'T MARRY UNTIL THEY CAN: "I haven’t even gotten that far (thinking about settling down). But yeah, I want a wife, I want kids. The whole thing. But I’m also not even concerned with marrying somebody until it’s legal for everybody to get married. And what I mean by that is the whole Prop 8 thing. I find it really offensive. I just find it really problematic when you start throwing people’s rights away. Until we get our gay brothers and sisters back into a realm of consciousness that everyone else is in, it’s just not right. A woman who’s getting married — it’s probably going to be a gay man who made her dress, and a gay man who’s doing her hair and makeup, but he can’t get married. How messed up is that?"

MEHCAD ON BEING A SEX SYMBOL: “I mean, it’s just a strange thing to claim. I can own the fact that I’m a good actor, because I work really hard at it. I can own the fact that I’m athletic because I work really hard at it. I can own the fact that I have a lot of stamina and I have lot of strength because I work really hard at that. But one person may find me sexy, and another might not find me sexy. That’s all subjective, an opinion. I can’t go around proclaiming that I know other people’s opinions about me. Plus, I see myself everyday, and I see everything that’s wrong. I don’t see everything that’s right, most of the time. It’s all relative. Sometimes I’m running and working out and sometimes I’m just trying to chill, stomach hanging out, chilling. The thing is I don’t really consider myself a sex symbol, because I don’t find myself sexy.”
In the interview, Mehcad also revealed that he loves women. He finds a lot of women very nurturing and good listeners. And the reason why it was really easy for him to end simply going into one relationship after another is because he has a lot of female friends. And lately, he’s been trying to focus on his career and finding the right woman is not his paramount concern right now. He says, “I’ve been trying to focus on other things, like on my career. And just focus on who I am as a human being without being wrapped up in relationships. Finding the one is not my top priority right now.”
MEHCAD'S IDEAL WOMAN: “I really like an attentive listener. And support. And a woman who has her own, who can support herself and feel secure in her own skin. I complement her and she complements me.”
Look for Mehcad on the the big screen in the upcoming Fence Walker and Just Wright, which stars Queen Latifah.

Is Lamman Rucker ready to settle down?

Posted by SouthernGurl

First of all, I want to wish Lamman a very belated Happy Birthday! B.C.M. blog's most favorite black celebrity man celebrated his 30-something b-day back on October 6th!

Hope you had a happy and safe one, Lamman!

Lamman Rucker sat down with Essence.com in June to talk about his role as 'Will' on Tyler Perry's Meet the Browns sitcom as well as his character 'Sheriff Troy' on Perry's Why Did I Get Married Too. And as usual, he was asked about the status of his personal life...which he happily answered. So unless his relationship status has changed in the last four months, chances are you die-hard fans will be satisfied with his answer.
ESSENCE.COM: What do you have in common with your married doctor character Will?
LAMMAN RUCKER: A lot of things. He is the first in [the Brown family] to have an advanced degree. I know what a challenge that can be and the dynamic of being one of the people in your family who has had the privilege to go off to school. He's really down to earth, has a great sense of humor and is very giving and supportive in his relationships. All of that I can relate to.

ESSENCE.COM: You're reuniting with the cast for the sequel to Why Did I Get Married? as Sheriff Troy. What can fans expect from you this time?
RUCKER: I've seen a draft of the script and everyone is going to love this one! We're filming this summer and it is a very interesting snapshot into marriage. The whole cast is returning and the film takes place a couple years down the line. When it comes to marriage and relationships, there is always a new adventure. Sheriff Troy will show an interesting side of himself and people will see his layers. Why Did I Get Married? did so well because it gave some real perspective on the realities of love.

ESSENCE.COM: Does playing these married men have this Do Right Man ready to settle down?
RUCKER: (Laughs.) I'm taking my time on all of that and the application process is still open. When I am ready it will take a woman who knows who she is. Many women are so wounded that they can't love another person. I need a woman who is secure and loves herself first. Then she can share that love and light with me.

T-Pain, Ne-Yo & Lil Wayne Mothers to launch talk show.

Taking a cue from The View, the mothers of Hip-Hop and R&B “greats” T-Pain, Lil Wayne, and Go-Go have decided to come together as one to impart wisdom on some of these wayward hoes walking around here. The middle-aged sex kittens are set to produce a pilot soon for television networks. Prepare to clutch your pearls as the threesome breaks down hood fights from World Star Hip Hop and give tips on how to drive the stank out of your kitchen after cooking chitlins. While many Black Americans pop their collars when speaking about President Obama they will need a crash course on accepting the sex appeal oozing from Mama Pain. Her Celebrity Seaborn five star status hair, tatted up hand, velvet pants, and stunting-on-you-hoes posture will have all the kids screaming her name but will surely be frowned down upon by the uppity crowd.

And that’s just the beginning of her problems.

An insider exclusively revealed to us after bible study last week that her Creole status is still up in the air, a problem that could potentially be devastating to her public image. But as long as she is as tough as the skin on her son’s bottom lip she will be just fine. Put her on your prayer list.

Martin & Jamie's new movie 'Shenehneh & Wanda.'

Posted by SouthernGurl

As if Spike Lee didn't have enough to bitch about. Expect him to show Martin and Jamie the same contempt he showed to Tyler Perry about his Madea character.
According to variety.com, Screen Gems has acquired Sheneneh and Wanda, a vehicle for Jamie Foxx and Martin Lawrence to star in a comic caper playing female characters they developed during their stand-up comedy days. Foxx will write the script, which he and Martin will produce through Foxx's FoxxKing and Lawrence's Runteldat production banners. The project originated as a parody of a movie trailer for a film called Skank Robbers, which Foxx and Lawrence made for the BET Awards. The reaction was strong enough that the duo decided to turn the concept into a real film. In the comedy, Sheneneh and Wanda are modern-day independent women trying to make it on their own, one bank robbery at a time.

Foxx and Lawrence have long tried to find a vehicle to work together, and Screen Gems' Clint Culpepper is fast tracking the production.

Foxx, who last starred in Law Abiding Citizen, will next be seen in the romantic comedy Valentine's Day. Lawrence will next be seen in the Screen Gems comedy Death at a Funeral.

90s boy band Silk reunite for one night.

Posted by SouthernGurl

I heard a throwback from Silk the other day. I believe it was Lose Control (I loved John-John's voice! He was my favorite member until I heard him refer to his children as his very own 'rainbow coalition.' No sir. Needless to say, that crush died with the quickness!). I love that song! Of course, after listening to the song, I couldn't help but finish listening to the rest of the cd. I wondered what the members of Silk were up to these days so my nosy-by-nature self checked their myspace accounts and learned that the group still perform together very often, which is a good look. Lil G. left the group in 2002 to release his debut solo album. Soon after he began performing in several stage plays, but it looks like he's back for good.

On ajc.com, I found pics of the guys performing at the Delta Classic Chastain Concert Series last August in Atlanta. En Vogue and Tony, Toni Tone also performed.

Looks like I've been sleeping on Silk for the past couple of years because according to their Myspace page:
In 2006 the group returned with their sixth album "Always And Forever" this time on well known R&B/Soul, Contemporary, and Jazz label Shanachie Records. The album featured covers of classics from the 70s, 80s, and 90s R&B. The songs on the album included remakes of Adore by Prince, Don't Disturb This Groove by The System, Always And Forever by Heatwave, Nite And Day by Al B. Sure, Secret Garden (Seduction Suite) by Quincey Jones, The Lady In My Life by Michael Jackson, Two Occasions by The Deele, and Side Show by Blue Magic also appeared on this album. Secret Garden was the first single for which a video was also released.
I think I may have to go cop that. And you best believe if they f-ed up my man's song, which also happens to be my favorite song from the Thriller album, I will be back to blog and bitch about it. Trust and believe.

Hosea Chanchez on love & marriage.

Posted by SouthernGurl

I definitely want to get married, but not anytime soon. I would not want to spend the rest of my life by myself. When you find the woman you want to spend the rest of your life with, you solidify it. I'm the type of guy who wants everyone to know, "it's mine." At the moment, I'm single. Doing this thing by myself gets a little hard, but it's coming. Watching Cory and Tia (Mowry)'s wedding, I really got to see how much this wedding meant to Tia. Tia just loved this guy so much that she wanted everybody close to her to see and experience this fairy tale under God and share in her day.

The cast of 'The Game' reunite on Mo'Nique.

Posted by SouthernGurl

For those of you who missed the cast of The Game reunite on Mo'Nique's late night show, like myself, last night. According to a press release, the cast members all joined Mo'Nique on the set of her new talk show to dish about their lives, careers and The Game. I'm mad they didn't include T.T.!

Though previews showed Mo’Nique asking the cast “Is The Game coming back?,” this portion was edited out of the actual show. No mention of the sitcom’s future was made. Mad? Sad? Well, I'm both. This is also the reason I didn't watch it. And the fact that Mo'Nique just yells too damn loud and too damn much for me. I hate when people yell at me for no reason. It's just rude...and annoying as hell!

The film revolves around six strangers (of different backgrounds, cultures, and economic statuses) who are invited to a mysterious home, each for different reasons. With nothing in common, they soon find out that they are actually brothers and sisters. The father they never knew about has died. As a part of his last will and testament, he will spread his millions equally amongst them, if they are willing to spend the next 24 hours together. All hell is about to break loose. We Are Family is scheduled to be released December 2010.

Hmmmm. The pics below show Christian lip-locking with Omarosa. I guess that's better than him lip-locking with another dude. But can yall believe that she is only 34 years-old. Yeah, I know.

Mike Epps response on being dropped from Richard Pryor bio-pic.

Posted by SouthernGurl

Marlon Wayans was spotted leaving Mr. Chows recently. Dude has been keeping himself busy lately. He showed his superhero skills in G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra which was released last summer. He and his brother, Shawn, are penning the sequel to White Chicks, which will be directed by their big brother Keenen, of course. Marlon's has also been tapped to star in Richard Pryor's biopic aptly titled, Richard Pryor: Is It Something I Said?, which is expected to hit cinemas in 2011. Comedian Mike Epps was originally given first dibs on the movie, but when producers found out Eddie Murphy was interested in starring in the role, Mike Epps was dropped. Soon after, Eddie bowed out when the directors wouldn't give in to his demands. Marlon eventually landed the role after wowing the producers with a 13-minute test where he "transforms into Pryor." Viewers can expect the film to explore Pryor's struggle with drugs and his controversial approach to comedy.

Another reason why Mike was dropped from the film is because of Pryor's widow, Jennifer's utter disgust for the comedian. I don't know what Mike did or said to her, but whatever it was had ol' girl feeling some type of way. Back in October, she unleashed her fury on Epps online. I have never seen/heard a white lady go off like she did. This really is sad. Personally, I thought Mike was the better choice for this film. Maybe Marlon can pull it off. If Jamie could become Ray Charles...
He got his ass so fired from me and Richard Pryor project and now he is trying to go around talking sh*t, saying he’s doing the Richard Pryor project…motherf*cker better watch his punk, country ass…it’s gonna get royally sued if he wants to play this game! My lawyers are ready and waiting!!! He said at Richard’s funeral: “I don’t know Richard…” That was the only honest moment and thing that came out of this punkass’s mouth…he doesn’t have a clue who Richard is or was, never will….Richard didn’t like you…you knew it too. I tried to make you feel better…”oh yeah, he likes you Mike” but he couldn’t stand your fake ass…your step and fetch it, higher than a kite, insincere sh*t you’d come up with…nothing original ever…Richard would look right through you and spot you for the country ass no talent bitch you are…

He’s so pissed at me he can’t see straight…yeah Mike…remember what you said to me: “IT’S SO HARD TO LISTEN TO YOU TALK ABOUT RICHARD BECAUSE YOU’RE A WHITE WOMAN…” That right there, says it all….youse nothing but a damn racist who doesn’t have a clue who Richard is, what he stands for: you’re just a wannabe cunt who has a small brain and a tin heart.

Watch Mike do his to avoid answering the question as to why he's not starring in the film. It start around 1:53.
